One step closer to health – It’s time we ‘Start Healthy. Stay Healthy’

She opened her beady eyes and saw an unfamiliar face staring back at her. Two gloved arms reached out for her and she realized that there was no way out now. She was helpless. She panicked and started crying at the top of her voice, just when she felt a sudden rush of warmth around her. She wrapped her little fingers around that strong finger and smiled back at her mother, who had tears of joy in her eyes.

It was the first time a mother held her newborn baby in her arms.

Being a mother is one of the greatest blessings in the world and this feeling cannot be expressed in words. For a mother her baby is her world! She would do anything in her power to nurture and protect her children in every way possible and make sure that they live a healthy and long life.

This is what Nestle Pakistan’s latest initiative ‘Start Healthy. Stay Healthy’ is all about. To help all mothers in their mission of giving a healthy start to their children to make sure that they stay healthy.

‘Start Healthy. Stay Healthy’ is an enormous awareness campaign about educating young mothers about the importance of nutrition in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

To amplify this message and make it reach out to larger masses, Nestle Pakistan in collaboration with ‘The Digital Factory’ held a bloggers meet up at Pearl Continental Hotel in Karachi on 12th September 2015.

The event was graced with the presence Dr. Huma Fahim who is the Medical Advisor in Nestlé Nutrition. She explained to the audience in a detailed and informative presentation that how important it is to take care of a child’s nutrition in the #First1000days of his life. The key message highlighted by Dr. Huma during this presentation was that the #First1000days of a child begin from the day he’s conceived inside a mother’s womb and that is the day that marks the beginning of his nutrition, leading to his growth and nourishment.

Some interesting and astonishing facts and figures, brought to our knowledge during this presentation. We tried our best to escalate this valuable information and make it reach out to as more people as possible.

After the valuable briefing session, Dr. Huma held an interactive quiz and question-answer session with us that further added to our knowledge and wisdom, encouraging us to share it with others too.

Speaking on the importance of #First1000days, Waqar Ahmad, the Head of Corporate Affairs, spoke to the audience, “Nestlé has an expertise in nutrition and believes it has a responsibility to share that expertise. We want to promote better health through good nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life. Research shows that children who don’t get proper nutrition in their early years can’t fully develop their physical and cognitive potential and are at an increased risk of poor health as adults.”

Being a developing country, Pakistan lacks the resources and adequate facilities needed to educate young mothers. Through Nestle Pakistan’s #First1000days initiative, we can take a head start and contribute for the betterment of our society and eventually the future of our generation.

A little effort goes a long way and I strongly believe in this. I feel pride in being a part of this noble cause, and I pledge to support it and make fruitful efforts for it in every possible way.

For mothers, and this motherland. Together we can ‘Start Healthy. Stay Healthy’
